Dermal Filler Treatment
PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
To minimize the risk of bruising, swelling, and other complications, please follow these guidelines before and after your filler appointment.
7 Days Before Treatment:
- Avoid blood-thinning agents if medically safe:
- Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), Naproxen (Aleve)
- Fish Oil, Vitamin E, Garlic, Ginkgo biloba, St. John’s Wort
- Consider taking Arnica Montana supplements to reduce the likelihood of bruising (ask your provider first).
3 Days Before Treatment:
- Avoid alcohol and limit caffeine intake.
- Refrain from using retinol, glycolic acid, or exfoliating products near the treatment area.
Day of Treatment:
- Arrive with a clean face—no makeup or skincare products.
- Eat a light meal beforehand and stay hydrated.
- Inform your provider if:
- You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive
- You have any skin infections, rashes, or cold sores near the injection area
- You’ve recently had dental work or vaccinations
POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Some swelling, bruising, and tenderness are normal and will typically resolve in a few days.
Immediately After:
- Apply cold compresses gently for 5–10 minutes at a time to reduce swelling.
- Keep your head elevated and avoid pressure on treated areas.
For 24–48 Hours:
- Do NOT touch, press, or massage the treated areas unless instructed.
- Avoid intense exercise, saunas, steam rooms, and alcohol consumption.
- Do not apply makeup for 12–24 hours unless your provider approves.
- Avoid lying face down or sleeping on the treated area.
First 3–5 Days:
- Mild lumps or bumps may be felt temporarily—this is common as the filler settles.
- Bruising may occur; Arnica gel or oral Arnica supplements may help.
- If lip filler was performed, swelling may peak at 24–48 hours and resolve over the next several days.
Avoid dental work & vaccines for 2 weeks before and after filler treatment to reduce the risk of infection or inflammation.
