Pre- & Post-Care Instructions
Botox® Cosmetic Treatment
PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
To reduce the risk of bruising or swelling and ensure optimal results:
7 Days Before Treatment:
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements if medically appropriate:
- Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), Naproxen (Aleve)
- Fish oil, Vitamin E, Ginkgo biloba, St. John’s Wort, Garlic supplements
- Consult your primary care provider before stopping any prescribed medications.
3 Days Before Treatment:
- Refrain from alcohol and excessive caffeine consumption.
- Avoid topical retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, or exfoliating treatments near the injection site.
Day of Treatment:
- Arrive with a clean face – no makeup, creams, or lotions.
- Eat a light meal to avoid lightheadedness.
- Let your provider know if:
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have a neurological condition, history of facial surgery, or allergies to botulinum toxin
- You’ve had Botox or other injectables in the last 3 months
POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
To ensure the best outcome and minimize complications:
Immediately After:
- You may notice small bumps, redness, or swelling at injection sites—this is normal and typically resolves within 15–30 minutes.
- Mild bruising or tenderness can occur and may last a few days.
For the First 4–6 Hours:
- Do NOT lie down or recline
- Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated areas
- Refrain from applying makeup
For 24 Hours:
- Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and hot environments (saunas, hot tubs)
- Don’t wear tight hats or headbands, if forehead was treated
First 24–48 Hours:
- If bruising occurs, you may apply Arnica gel or take oral Arnica supplements to help reduce it.
- Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer.
- Continue sleeping with your head elevated for the first night if possible.
7 Days After Treatment:
- No facials or aesthetic treatments
